Horses have been around humans for thousands of years. They are considered humans’ most loyal companions and it is not surprising to find out that many game developers decide to center on a topic that surrounds horses whether it is horse racing, taking care of horses, or casual horse-riding simulators.
With that said the horse genre in games doesn’t get the attention it needs, at least compared to other niches. If you like browsing horse racing free picks by TwinSpires you probably would be eager to play some of these.
It’s not like a complete desert, as we can still find some good horse games that are perfect for anyone that loves being around these majestic creatures.
This inspired us to find some of the best horse games for Nintendo Switch.
Horse Games to Consider for Nintendo Switch
Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch
This is a family-friendly game that sets you up in a vast and quite beautiful open world where you’ll be surrounded by horses.
It is quite an adventure!
We don’t usually get open-world explorer-type games that are centered around horses, which is why Horse Tales is our first choice.
While you explore the secrets of the island which is created with beautiful Zelda-type graphics, you also can Breed, tame and train horses. There are different horse breeds in the game each coming with different characteristics and strengths.
You also can build and personalize your ranch with a variety of buildings and decorations. So, it is not only an open-world game, but also a building simulator game.
Horse Club Adventures 2: Hazelwood Stories
If you love heartwarming tales of friendship and magic, “Horse Club Adventures 2: Hazelwood Stories” is just what you need. Join a group of horse-loving pals as they venture into the enchanting world of Hazelwood.
This is a game that focuses on taking photos. Yep, you’ve heard it right, you are on your horse trying to capture the perfect photo of a horse, bird, or nature.
The world is quite big and there are plenty of places to explore. You also can feed, wash, scrape out hooves, and take care of your horse.
It is a family-friendly casual game that is perfect for relaxation.
My Riding Stables: Life with Horses
This is quite a different game compared to the previous two and the first and most noticeable difference is in the graphics. My Riding Stables features 3D graphics that may not be as high as today’s standards, but they are not that bad considering that the game was released in 2014.
This is a horse game that is focused only on horses.
You can breed, feed, train, and race your horses. There are more than 100 possible breeding combinations where each horse will come out with its own unique abilities.
The attention to detail is what makes this game so great. You get to experience what is like to take care of horses first-hand. Literally!
You need to clean their hooves, wash horses, feed them and all of these sorts of mini-games are quite detailed and realistic.
Windstorm: Start of a Great Friendship
Ever wondered why many of the successful books are recreated into movies but they don’t get the deserved love when it comes to games?
Well, this time is different.
This game is based on the Windstorm best-selling books, where you and Windstorm will explore the beautiful nature of the Kaltenbach estate. There is also a movie version of the tale, that actually won the Best German Children’s Film Award in 2014.
This is not as detailed a game as the others when it comes to horse management. You don’t need to brush, wash, or clean your horses’ hooves.
The only thing you need to worry about is its health, training, and happiness.
But when it comes to the graphics, this game is definitely one of the most realistic ones. It features beautiful nature physics and perfectly captures the journey between you and your horse.
Together, you’ll explore stunning landscapes, take part in thrilling races, and go on heart-pounding adventures. Trust me, this game is pure magic – you won’t want to put it down!
You don’t have many options like changing your horse or breeding, but at least you can develop a long-lasting relationship with Windstorm!
