The Rise And Rise Of Digital Assets: Meet Crypto’s Biggest Supporters

The remarkable development that the crypto market has seen over the years can be attributed to many different things, as it’s not the result of one single factor or event.

People’s growing dissatisfaction with traditional financial systems, which are deeply flawed and create major wealth discrepancies among the population, mounting concerns related to inflation and economic instability, continuous technological innovation, social media hype, and the fear of missing out (FOMO), have all played a part in it.

But there’s another force that has fueled the crypto phenomenon, and that is less talked about: the endorsement from famous and influential individuals.

It’s almost certain that crypto wouldn’t be where it is today – or at least it wouldn’t have gotten to this point as fast – if it weren’t for the involvement of several prominent personalities.

Through their actions and standpoints, these people helped push digital currencies into the spotlight and accelerated their development.

Without their participation, many people may have never taken an interest in this intriguing asset class or turned to platforms like Binance, searching for top cryptocurrencies to invest in and checking the fear and greed index to monitor market sentiment.

So, let’s see who these key figures are and how they have supported crypto in its rise to the top.

Donald Trump – the crypto convert

Having the President of the United States, one of the most influential and powerful people in the world, as an advocate is a huge deal for the crypto industry, which is why he stands at the top of our list. However, Donald Trump hasn’t always been a fan of digital currencies.

Quite the contrary, the businessman turned reality star turned politician was once a staunch opponent of these innovative assets and frequently spoke against them, criticizing them for their volatility, lack of intrinsic value, and competition with the U.S. dollar. He once stated that Bitcoin seems like a scam and that the value of cryptocurrencies is based on thin air.

But somewhere along the way, Trump had a change of heart. His transition from crypto challenger to champion started in 2024, toward the end of his presidential campaign, although he had previously engaged with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by launching several collections on the Polygon network between 2022 and 2023, which generated millions of dollars.

In 2024, in an attempt to attract the goodwill and support of the tech-savvy electorate, Trump started accepting donations in crypto for his presidential campaign. He also participated in various industry events and made bold promises during his speeches.

The pledge that he would turn the US into the crypto capital of the planet if he were elected as president was probably one of his most memorable statements.

Well, Trump did get elected for a second term at the White House, and soon after the January 2025 inauguration, he started implementing a variety of crypto-friendly measures, demonstrating that he had every intention to make good on his promise.

Under the Trump administration, the U.S. established its first-ever strategic crypto reserve, funded by the Treasury’s forfeited Bitcoin.

Paul Atkins, a strong backer of digital currencies, replaced Gary Gensler as the Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), being nominated by Trump himself. This also marked a shift in the federal agency’s approach to crypto regulation, from enforcement to collaboration.

In addition, new crypto-focused policies were proposed under the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act, both of which aim to create a clear and effective regulatory regime for digital assets.

These initiatives caused massive shifts in the crypto space, leading to increased adoption and investments in digital assets.

Vitalik Buterin – the crypto visionary

Vitalik Buterin is the cofounder of Ethereum, the second-largest crypto in the market, and a hub of innovation in the crypto space.

This alone is enough to regard him as a crypto champion. But Buterin’s contribution to the development of the industry goes beyond the creation of a highly performant blockchain platform.

The Russian-Canadian computer programmer also co-founded Bitcoin Magazine early in his career, one of the first serious crypto publications that helped educate the public on the topic and create more credibility for crypto assets.

Buterin also speaks at crypto conferences worldwide and posts frequently on his blog, addressing different crypto and blockchain-related topics.

Michael Saylor – the outspoken Bitcoin maximalist

Just like Donald Trump, Michael Saylor started out as a crypto skeptic and only later changed his stance on digital assets.

The executive chairman and co-founder of Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, became convinced that the Federal Reserve’s monetary policies during the COVID pandemic would seriously impact the value of the U.S. dollar, so he started looking for an adequate store of value, which prompted him to invest in crypto.

Since then, Saylor launched an aggressive accumulation campaign and continued to increase his company’s Bitcoin holdings.

He also turned into one of the most outspoken crypto advocates, being a constant presence at industry conferences, events, and podcasts, where he talks about Bitcoin’s technical and economic superiority to traditional fiat money.

Elon Musk – the meme coin promoter

The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla is quite a controversial figure in the public space, but it can’t be denied that he is also extremely influential.

So, when Musk started tweeting about Dogecoin (DOGE) back in 2021, the meme coin’s price surged instantly. The entrepreneur kept posting cryptic messages about meme coins, and every mention, whether it made sense or not, caused significant value spikes in the assets’ value.

But Musk’s ties to crypto go deeper than Dogecoin and meme coins. In 2021, his electric vehicle (EV) and clean energy company, Tesla, purchased $1.5 billion in Bitcoin, which is kept as a reserve asset.

Musk also stated that he owns BTC, ETH, and DOGE, although he has not disclosed the exact amounts. That alone serves as a major endorsement for digital assets.

Other prominent names that are tied to crypto’s rise in one way or another include Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple, US Senator Cynthia Loomis, BlackRock’s CEO Larry Fink, and Paul Atkins, the current SEC Chairman.
