Apex Legends fans, get ready to dive into a neon-soaked battlefield! The game’s 22nd season, dubbed “Shockwave,” is set to electrify the battle royale scene with a dazzling new map and game-changing features. Let’s break down what’s coming to Respawn Entertainment’s hit shooter.
Welcome to E-District: A Cyberpunk Paradise
The star of Shockwave is undoubtedly E-District, a sprawling urban playground that screams cyberpunk from every pixelated pore. World director Ed Agostini calls it a “beautiful neon playground,” and it’s easy to see why:
- Larger than life: E-District boasts more playable space than previous maps
- Titanfall heritage: The design draws inspiration from Angel City, a fan-favorite map from Apex’s predecessor
- Visual feast: Expect a riot of neon lights, towering skyscrapers, and futuristic tech at every turn
Akimbo Action: Double the Guns, Double the Fun
For the first time in Apex Legends, players can channel their inner gunslinger with akimbo weapons. Dual-wielding comes to the following pistols:
- P2020
- Mozambique
This addition promises to shake up close-quarters combat, offering a spray-and-pray option for those who prioritize volume of fire over pinpoint accuracy.
Never Say Die: The Revival System
Shockwave introduces a groundbreaking Revival system that could dramatically alter match pacing:
- Auto-respawn: As long as one squadmate is alive, eliminated players will automatically respawn after a short delay
- Increasing timer: The respawn delay grows longer as the match progresses
- Endgame intensity: Revival shuts off in the final rings, creating a thrilling “sudden death” atmosphere
Josh Mohan, the associate director, explains: “Revival is about shaking up the core combat loop of Apex.”
More Tweaks to Spice Things Up
Shockwave isn’t stopping there. Here are some additional changes to keep an eye on:
- LMG shields: Light Machine Guns now feature a front-facing shield, absorbing up to 40 damage
- Mid-match loot refresh: Opened supply bins will reset and close partway through matches
- Treasure hunt: Look out for rare Gold Bins and a single, map-wide Mythic Bin for top-tier loot
