Why is Fortnite so laggy?

I've been experiencing significant lag while playing Fortnite, and it's becoming increasingly frustrating. Despite having a decent PC setup, including an Nvidia 1660 Super and a Ryzen 5 5500 CPU, I can't seem to run the game smoothly even on the lowest settings. My average FPS is around 100, but it frequently drops to 20 FPS, making the game unplayable. I've tried various fixes, but nothing seems to work. I'm curious if others are facing similar issues and what solutions might be available to resolve this lag.

Fortnite lag can be super frustrating, especially when you have a solid PC setup. A few things to try:

Turn off DX12 shaders in the Epic launcher settings. This helped a lot of people get better FPS with less lag spikes.

Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause performance issues.

Check your in-game video settings. Lower the quality if needed so your hardware can handle it better.

Close any background programs that might be hogging resources while you play.

If your PC is overheating, the fans may need cleaning for better airflow and cooling.

As a last resort, try reinstalling Fortnite. Sometimes weird bugs can cause lag that a fresh install fixes.

You're not alone dealing with this, it's a common issue this season. Hopefully the devs optimize things more. Let me know if any of those suggestions help!
