One letter, repeated until it stops being funny, then funny again
Each o is a moulded disc with a highlight across the top. Two o’s is a logo. Twelve o’s is a joke. Ninety o’s is a wall of purple circles that no longer reads as a word at all, and the font shrinks automatically so the whole thing stays on screen instead of running off the edge.
The width readout underneath is the part people fixate on. Watching the pixel count climb while the letters get smaller feels like some kind of physics being conserved.
Why there is a pagination bar
Because that is where the whole thing comes from. Old results pages spelled the word out along the bottom, one o per page of results, so a search with a lot of results literally produced a longer logo. Deep queries could stretch it to twenty or thirty characters, and people started collecting screenshots of the longest ones they could find.
Every o you add here adds a page to the strip. Click any number and it becomes the current page. It does nothing else, which is exactly as useful as the original.
The buttons
Add one for slow growth, add ten if you are impatient, double it if you want to get silly fast. Doubling from sixty puts you at a hundred and twenty in a single press, and the new letters pop in one at a time in a staggered cascade rather than all at once.
Fill the line jumps straight to 120. The ceiling is 400, at which point the type is small enough that the shades blur into a single violet band.
The spelling problem
Nobody types this query the same way twice. Searches arrive as gooooole, gooooooooooooooogle, and every count in between, all trying to find the page that stretches the word. It is one of the very few search terms where getting the spelling wrong is the entire point.

For another look at how the interface used to work, google in 1998 rebuilds the beta homepage complete with the exclamation mark. google mirror takes the same letters and reverses them. askew google tilts them.
If you would rather the logo did something than just got longer, google gravity drops it and google floating lifts it. Everything is on the google easter eggs page.
