Its creator has voluntarily removed a popular modification for God of War Ragnarök that allowed players to bypass the PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. The mod’s author cited concerns about potential legal issues with Sony for its withdrawal.

About the mod

The modification, known as NoPSSDK, gained significant attention among PC gamers. It offered a way to play God of War Ragnarök without linking a PSN account, which is typically required for the game’s PC version.

Creator’s decision

The mod’s creator, who uses the username iArtorias, removed NoPSSDK from NexusMods and GitHub. In an interview with IGN, iArtorias explained the reasoning behind this decision:

“I just wanted to avoid possible threats from Sony, even if the code never touched any of their products. You never know, and it’s a gray area for me.”

Popularity and consequences

The mod’s growing popularity led to increased promotion on various platforms, including Steam forums. This heightened visibility likely contributed to the creator’s concerns about potential legal repercussions.

Current situation

With the removal of NoPSSDK, PC players of God of War Ragnarök will now need to link their PSN accounts as initially intended by the developers. This incident highlights the complex relationship between game modifications and intellectual property rights in the gaming industry.

The situation also serves as a reminder of the potential risks modders face when creating tools that alter the intended functionality of commercial games, even when done without malicious intent.
