That’s where video games that accurately depict the sport have always come in handy, with some top-notch baseball games being played today alongside titles like Fortnite. In the past, though, the genre was arguably even stronger. 

In the glory days of SNES gaming and some other retro consoles people adore, baseball games were far more prevalent.

Sure, these days fans have fantasy picks to make and MLB betting lines to assess before having a flutter on the action, but the choice of baseball gaming titles they had at their disposal over a decade or so ago was far more extensive.

Sadly, sports in other areas are brought to life more consistently, with pastimes like soccer having games like EA Sports FC 26 and eFootball associated with it. 

While many players are currently enjoying modern-day options like MLB The Show 26, that’s pretty much it in terms of choice. As such, some baseball fans are still pining for the good old days of baseball gaming. Baseball Stars

Nintendo is responsible for some of the most charming sports-themed games ever, and while they aren’t always the most accurate depictions of the sports in question, they’re always highly pleasurable.

Baseball Stars is a title that fits the bill in that respect, with this old-school Nintendo game being one of the first baseball titles that came with a save game feature as players built up teams of players and aimed to record as many triumphs as they possibly could in an attempt to make their team the best around. 

Triple Play Baseball

Ever fancied playing baseball inside a bedroom or living room? Well, in Triple Play Baseball, you could do exactly that in 2001. This epic release brought something fresh to the table at the time, as players smashed furniture and a selection of precious items while winning tense clashes. 

Backyard Baseball

For people who perhaps weren’t interested in the sport of baseball, Backyard Baseball’s virtual offering enabled them to discover this beloved pastime in the real world.

This iconic release’s impact cannot be understated, as players enjoyed simple gameplay that served up endless amounts of baseball-themed fun.

Straightforward to grasp and extremely entertaining to play, Backyard Baseball mainly featured fictional players, although later versions of the game contained stars like Ken Griffey Jr. in a charming title. 

MVP Baseball 2005

When we referred to the good old days of baseball gaming, MVP Baseball 2005 is a title that sprang to mind. This much-loved release wouldn’t stand up against some of today’s beautifully presented sports titles, but it was a masterpiece at the time of its release.

In fact, even today, players can tuck into a modded version of the game that is being played by MLB fans everywhere. Offering some of the finest mechanics the baseball category of gaming has ever witnessed, plus a highly engaging franchise mode, MVP Baseball 2005 is brilliant. 

RBI Baseball

RBI Baseball is most definitely outdated, although it certainly helped to shape the genre moving forward. In terms of licensing, RBI Baseball was one of the first games of its kind to actually feature world-famous MLB players after striking up a deal with the MLB Players Association.

While it didn’t result in every single team and player being featured, there was enough content for fans to get their teeth into in a truly delightful retro title.
