Is NBA 2K24 Cross Platform?

NBA 2K24 will have a new feature called crossplay. This is a big step for the series. But it only works on some gaming systems.

NBA 2K24 lets you play with others on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

The NBA 2K24 website says that you can play with friends on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.

You can play together in all the different modes. 

This lets you have lots of fun with your friends. Whether you want to team up for cooperative play or go head-to-head in competitive matches, crossplay makes it easy to connect with your buddies no matter which of the two consoles they own.

But you need an NBA 2K account and online memberships for your console. Most online games need this. Having an NBA 2K account allows the game to keep track of your progress, stats, and purchases across different platforms. 

The online console subscriptions, like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold, are necessary for accessing online multiplayer features.

This is the first time in 25 years that NBA 2K has crossplay. Fans have wanted this for a long time. The inclusion of this feature is a major step forward for the series, bringing players together and fostering a sense of community across console boundaries.

How Crossplay Works in NBA 2K24

When you turn on crossplay, people on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S can talk to each other in the game. They use voice chat to do this.

This should make it faster to find matches. That’s because more people will be playing the same modes at once. With a larger pool of players to choose from, the matchmaking system can create more balanced and competitive games.

Ronnie 2K says it took many years to add crossplay. Implementing this feature required close collaboration between 2K and the console manufacturers, as well as extensive testing to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for players.

But 2K made it easy for players to use. The game will automatically detect if crossplay is available and connect you with players on the other console. 

Also, the game will show if someone is on Xbox Series X/S or PS5, so you know who you’re playing with.

NBA 2K24 Doesn’t Have Crossplay for PC, Switch, and Older Consoles

2K says crossplay in NBA 2K24 is only for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. So if you play on Switch, PC, PS4, or Xbox One, you can’t play with people on other devices. This limitation may disappoint some fans who were hoping for a more inclusive crossplay experience.

The decision to restrict crossplay to the latest console generation is likely due to technical differences between the systems. 

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have more advanced hardware and features that may not be compatible with older consoles or PC setups.

Keeping crossplay limited to these two systems ensures a level playing field and a consistent experience for all players.

But if you played NBA 2K23 on PS4 or Xbox One, you can move your progress to PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. 

This only works if you stay with PlayStation or Xbox when you upgrade. So, while you can’t play with friends on other platforms, you can at least carry over your MyTEAM collection, VC balance, and MyCAREER progress within the same console family.
