FromSoftware’s recent announcement of Elden Ring: Nightreign during The Game Awards generated a lot of excitement.
Fans eagerly discussed whether they could play together across different gaming platforms.
However, game director Junya Ishizaki quickly addressed the issue, confirming that cross-platform play will not be supported.

Official Statement on Cross-Platform Play
Ishizaki clarified that while Elden Ring: Nightreign will allow players on the same console family to play together, cross-play across different platforms will not be possible.
Here’s what he shared:
- PlayStation users: PS4 players can join PS5 players in multiplayer.
- Xbox users: Xbox One players can play with those on Xbox Series X or S.
- There is no cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
Multiplayer System Details

The game will follow a multiplayer system similar to the original Elden Ring.
This means that even players using different generations of the same console can enjoy co-op gameplay together, but only within their console family.
For instance, PS4 and PS5 players can connect, and Xbox One players can team up with Xbox Series X/S users.
But, there will be no way for PlayStation players to interact with Xbox or PC players.
The Disappointment for Cross-Platform Fans
Although expected, this news may be a letdown for players hoping for a broader cross-platform experience.
In an era where console companies are becoming more cooperative, limiting multiplayer to the same platform family still feels like a missed opportunity.
PC Players Excluded From Early Tests

The upcoming Elden Ring: Nightreign network playtest will only be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Once again, from early testing, a common practice for FromSoftware, PC players are excluded.
Some believe this decision stems from security concerns. Unlike on consoles, data miners can more easily access and leak information from PC builds.
However, this hasn’t stopped many from trying to find ways to access test builds on PC.
What’s Next for Fans?
While Elden Ring: Nightreign may not offer cross-platform play, players can still look forward to future multiplayer experiences within their console families.
Those craving cross-platform expertise may have to wait for other upcoming games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, which plans to add cross-play support next year.
Stay tuned for more updates as Elden Ring: Nightreign nears its 2025 release.
