As a hardcore Madden fan, I was pumped for Madden NFL 21. I couldn’t wait to explore the latest installment of the franchise and throw down on the virtual gridiron.

But then a question popped into my head: is Madden NFL 21 cross platform? I had to know.

EA Confirms No Cross-Platform Play in Madden NFL 21

After some digging, I found out that EA straight up said nope to cross-platform play in Madden NFL 21. That means if you’re on PS4, you can only play with other PS4 users. Xbox One players are stuck with other Xbox One owners. And so on.

It’s a real bummer, cuz cross-platform play is becoming more and more common these days. Lots of big multiplayer games are letting players on different systems play together.

No Cross-Play Even Within Console Families

But get this: Madden NFL 21 doesn’t even have cross-play within console families. So if you’ve got a PS4 and your buddy has a PS5, you’re outta luck. Same goes for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

I mean, come on. It’s 2021. You’d think they could at least let players on the same console family play together.

Madden NFL 21’s Multiplayer Takes a Hit

The lack of cross-platform play really limits Madden NFL 21’s multiplayer. If you wanna play with your friends, you better hope they’re on the same console as you.

Otherwise, you’re stuck playing with randos. And let’s be real, that’s not always the most fun experience.

Fans Left Disappointed

Madden fans were pretty disappointed by the news. A lot of people were looking forward to playing with their buddies on different systems.

But nope, EA said no dice. It’s a real shame, cuz cross-platform play could’ve taken Madden NFL 21’s multiplayer to the next level.

The Future of Cross-Platform Play in Madden

So what does the future hold for cross-platform play in Madden? It’s hard to say for sure.

EA hasn’t said much about their plans for future Madden releases. But with more and more games going cross-platform, it seems like a no-brainer for the Madden franchise to follow suit.

The Bottom Line

At the end of the day, the lack of cross-platform play in Madden NFL 21 is a real disappointment. It limits the game’s multiplayer potential and leaves fans feeling let down.

But hey, maybe EA will get with the times and bring cross-platform play to future Madden releases. Fingers crossed.
