Firaxis Games has revealed another compelling addition to their upcoming strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. King Xerxes of Persia joins an already impressive lineup of historical leaders, bringing unique abilities that blend military conquest with economic benefits.

A Growing Cast of Leaders

The Persian ruler joins an increasingly diverse roster that includes:

  • Hatshepsut (Egypt’s first female pharaoh)

  • Confucius (Chinese philosopher)
  • Tecumseh (Indigenous American leader)
  • Trung Trac (Vietnamese leader)
  • Ashoka (Indian ruler)

Xerxes’ Unique Abilities

Players choosing Xerxes will benefit from his signature ability, “Crusher of Rebellions.” This powerful perk enhances military units’ combat strength when attacking enemy or neutral territories. According to Civilization’s official website, the Persian leader offers flexible gameplay options, allowing players to either pursue aggressive expansion or focus on cultural development and trade.

Strategic Advantages

The Persian civilization under Xerxes offers notable benefits:

  • Cultural Gains: Earn Culture points from first-time settlement captures
  • Economic Bonuses: Receive Gold for conquering settlements
  • Trade Benefits: Additional Gold bonuses from all settlements, particularly those not founded by Xerxes

Strategy enthusiasts won’t have to wait long to test Xerxes’ abilities. Civilization VII launches on February 11, 2025, with a multi-platform release including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

The game follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Civilization VI, while introducing fresh mechanics and leaders to keep the series’ signature “one more turn” appeal alive.
