Orbits that were never going to hold
The fragments are clay chips with soft edges, two dozen of them circling at a comfortable distance, moving fast enough sideways that they look stable. They are not. Every pass loses a little energy to the pull, the loop tightens, and eventually a word crosses the ring of light and is simply not there anymore.
Watching one specific word survive four or five orbits before it goes is the entire appeal. It never feels random, even though it is.
The disc does the heavy lifting visually
Pale lilac near the edge, deep violet further out, flattened and rotating slowly on a tilted plane, with a hard black circle at the middle and a thin bright rim marking the point of no return. Text passing near the disc gets larger and brighter, text further out shrinks and dims, which sells the depth without any real 3D.
Move it wherever you want
Click anywhere in the frame and the singularity jumps there. Everything in orbit suddenly has the wrong velocity for its new position, so the whole system reorganises itself over the next few seconds. Doing this repeatedly is how you keep pieces alive longest.
Crank the pull
Doubles each press up to eight times normal, then resets. At 8x nothing survives more than a couple of seconds and the counter races. At 1x with the pull switched off entirely, the fragments just sail off in straight lines, which is a useful reminder of what the gravity is actually doing.
The search that leads here
People arrive from black hole google easter egg, google blackhole, and half a dozen spellings in between. The idea grew out of the older falling page trick, and it is now the more dramatic of the two. If you want the original where the layout just collapses to the floor instead of disappearing forever, that is google gravity.
thanos snap is the other one on this site where things stop existing, and floating google is the friendliest version of the same physics. Everything else is on the google easter eggs page.
Counters
Swallowed climbs forever and only resets when you spit everything back out. Still orbiting tells you how much is left to lose. Throw in more matter adds eighteen pieces at a random distance with a fresh tangential velocity, so you can keep the system fed indefinitely.
