Epic Games is gearing up to make a splash in the mobile gaming domain. The company plans to expand its digital store offerings for iOS and Android devices, bringing smartphone users many new games and features.
Epic’s Mobile Strategy
Epic Games recently rolled out a version of its digital store for mobile platforms. While it’s currently limited to browsing and purchasing PC games, plus mobile versions of Fortnite and Fall Guys, the company has ambitious plans in the pipeline.
Epic Games CEO Steve Allison shared their roadmap:
- Add up to 50 third-party mobile games to the platform
- Offer developers tools to port their games to iOS and Android
- Introduce a mobile game giveaway program, mirroring their PC offerings
Upcoming Features
Epic’s foray into mobile gaming promises to bring a variety of titles to smartphones and tablets. Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition is expected to be one of the first games, hinting at the caliber of titles we can expect.
The company’s plan includes:
- Creating a toolkit for game porting
- Collaborating with third-party developers
- Expanding free game offerings to mobile devices
Timeline and Current Offerings
The full rollout of this plan is expected at the end of Q4 2024. However, Epic is already making moves in the mobile space. The Epic Games Store app for iOS and Android lets users browse and purchase PC games.
In the meantime, PC gamers can enjoy Epic’s latest free game, “Bear and Breakfast,” a charming economic simulator about running a forest hotel. It’s available at no cost until October 10th.
As Epic Games works to bridge PC and mobile gaming, players across all platforms have plenty to look forward to. With high-quality titles and free games on the horizon, mobile gaming is set for an exciting transformation.
