Modern Warfare 2 has become the most popular Call of Duty game title on the Steam platform. The reboot is enormous for this sequel.
After the disappointing sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Activision decided to revive the franchise by launching a game called Call of Duty: MW 3. That title was released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It received positive reviews from critics and became one of the year’s best-selling games.
It was a massive leak for the game industry. Players were outraged when they saw players who looked like professional athletes appearing as operators. And Activision announced that they would include DLC in the future.
The Future Is Now
But now, Modern Warfare 2 has been flooded with new players who have joined the game at once. The MW2’s steam launch was already dubbed the biggest in Call Of Duty’s history because of its vast number of concurrent players.
Black Ops 3 was the last game to reach a figure near this newest title. However, the numbers will likely hit new heights in the next few days. According to Steam Database, Modern Warfare 2 has reached a record of over 235,000 simultaneous players. The previous record was set just yesterday when the number stood at 238,522.
All-Time-Highs Were Reached At Launch
Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s all-time high for concurrent players has passed the 230,000 mark, and the current Modern Warfare 2 player count is still rocking.
Many people played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare immediately after its release, making it the most popular game in the Call of Duty franchise on Steam so far. It is just behind Dota 2, PUB G: Battle Grounds, and Apex Legends. However, it is expected to raise the list in the coming days as more people download the game.
Modern Warfare 2 Game Performance
To give you an example of just how well Modern Warfare 2 has been performing, the previous game to achieve a concurrent user count of 100,000 was Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which only had a total number of simultaneous players of 63,681. Steam is not the only PC gaming platform for MW II; there are other platforms where the game is being played, and PlayerCounter tracks across all platforms.
Not most of the Call of Duty community may be playing Modern Warfare 2 on PC. However, since the game was released on Steam first, most of the player base is likely using Steam.
Not all have been sunny and rainbows for the successful Modern Warfare 2. Players have encountered issues like the inability to turn off crossplay, which is still possible via the console settings. Nevertheless, the other consoles will have to wait for an update from the developers. It’s off to a great start, though.
