OSRS Beginner’s Money-Making Guide
Early game money-making in OSRS is challenging, to say the least. There aren’t a lot of ways to earn sufficient gold in the game! If you’re one of those struggling to make ends meet early on, here’s a quick guide to make sure you’re earning money fast!
Whether you’re completely new or are playing OSRS using a new account, you’ll quickly come to learn that the most valuable asset in the game is gold. You need it for buying raw materials, equipment, potions, food, and more. To put it simply, gold makes the world go round in OSRS.
Money-making in OSRS is relatively challenging during the early game. Your options to earn gold are very limited and your low level and lack of good gear make each method risky as well.

Kill Chaos Druids
There are lots of enemies and creatures that you can farm early on for gold. However, one of the most practical combat methods to earn money is by killing Chaos Druids. You can get around 172,000 gold per hour.
Beating chaos druids can prove to be a lucrative venture due to their valuable drops, including herbs like lantadyme, avantoe, dwarf weed, and ranarr weed. Since they’re only at a Combat level of 13, you don’t need to do much or prepare much to take them out. You can get a huge bag of herbs, law runes, and mithril bolts within 20 minutes.
They’re particularly weak from Ranged Attacks. In the early game, the best way to fight them off is by using iron knives against them.
To start farming Chaos Druids, you can start looking for them in various locations such as Edgeville Dungeon, Taverley Dungeon, and Yanille Agility Dungeon. However, we don’t suggest going for the ones in Edgeville Dungeon because some of them are within the Wilderness area. While it’s not that dangerous to do it, you’re still at risk of coming across PK’ers.
The best place to start farming them is on Taverley Dungeon. Aside from being far from the Wilderness Area, the monsters in this area are also packed together. You can also check out the Yanille Agility Dungeon but you’ll need 57 Agility or 82 Thieving to access it.
Pickpocketing H.A.M Members
If you’re feeling a bit adventurous and if you’re looking to improve your Thieving as well, you can start pickpocketing H.A.M. members with a minimum Thieving of 15. If you’re lucky enough, you can earn up to 1,009,000 per hour.
Pickpocketing H.A.M. members at this Thieving level nets you a 1/50 chance to get an easy clue scroll. Each clue scroll is at least 44,039 each. The value of these is driven by trimmed / gold trimmed bronze / iron / steel / black armour, cosmetic items, God pages and some very rare items such as the Gold-trimmed monk’s robes and Team cape zero.
To do this efficiently, teleport to Draynor Village with an Amulet of glory. Run to the hideout and get a clue scroll from one of the members. Complete the clue scroll, bank in Draynor Village and ten repeat the process. To decrease your chances of getting kicked out of the hide out, make sure to wear a dodgy necklace and full H.A.M robes.
If you get 15 scrolls per hour, you get 453,891.32 coins at 12 scrolls per hour, and 340,418.49 coins at 9 scrolls per hour. Unlike with medium clue scrolls, the rewards with real value are a lot more spread out in easy clues. The probability for an expensive rare item (team capes or monk robes) is roughly 1 in 500 and hence only contributes roughly 10k to the total value of an easy clue scroll.
As a beginner, you can expect at least 2-10 clue scrolls per hour if you’re lucky. While a bit more taxing, you’re at least not in the heat of combat with this method.
Collecting Nature Runes In Deep Wilderness
If you’re on a F2P account and aren’t afraid to risk it all for a bit of gold, you can try collecting Nature Runes in the Deep Wilderness for a profit of 219,000 per hour. As this is the Wilderness we are talking about, expect to come across many risks including PK’ers but the rewards are well worth it.
When doing this method you mustn’t bring anything valuable. Dying in the Wilderness will cause you to lose those items. It’s also recommended to not stock up on Law Runes. Ideally, you should have at least 50 to 100 at a time just in case you don’t lose too much when you die.
The journey from the middle of Varrock Square’s northeast tile to the nature rune spawns takes roughly 4 minutes and 50 seconds on foot. Once at the spawn location, you can stay indefinitely.
There are two nature rune spawns on the island. One is situated in the north-western corner, containing 4 runes, and the other is in the southern part, containing 3 runes. Both spawns have a respawn time of 1 minute and 45 seconds.
You have the option to safe-spot the lesser demons at both locations, with the easiest safe-spot found near the 4 nature rune spawn in the north-west corner. To maximize profit, you can use Telekinetic Grab to acquire both spawns and then hop worlds for efficiency.
Crushing Bird Nests
With an hourly rate of 710,000 gold, crushing bird nests in OSRS is surprisingly profitable. Crushed nests serve as a key ingredient in the creation of Saradomin brews. Since these brews are in high demand for both Herblore training and combat, players often opt to purchase crushed nests directly from the Grand Exchange rather than undergo the time-consuming process of making them. This creates a lucrative opportunity for players to profit by crushing bird nests themselves.
Given that endeavors involving substantial buying and selling usually require a significant initial investment, it is advisable to assess the market’s viability by starting with the crushing of a single nest to ensure profitability.
Multiple bird nests can be crushed in a single game tick, or players can automate the process to crush them every 3 ticks. This can result in the grinding of anywhere between 2,000 nests per hour during idle periods to 5,000 nests per hour with high-intensity efforts, yielding profits ranging from 284,000 to 710,000.
To crush the nests, simply combine them with a pestle and mortar. The process is relatively slow, grinding one bird nest at a time. However, efficiency can be significantly increased by manually crushing each nest. Placing the pestle and mortar next to the last bird nest in your inventory can streamline the process, minimizing mouse movement and making the task more manageable.
Master The Grand Exchange
The Grand Exchange is essentially the center of commerce in the game. You can bu goods there and sell them as well. The price of goods varies from time to time and if you’re keeping track of prices, you can start “flipping” items to make a profit. To put it simply, you’ll need to buy items at a low price and then sell them at a higher price once demand is higher.
You can monitor the price at the Grand Exchange from various sources online too. It’s one of the best ways to earn in the game as it doesn’t put you in direct combat. If you’re good enough, you can become a millionaire simply by buying and selling items! Keep in mind that while relatively safe, flipping in the Grand Exchange takes time and a lot of practice.
